I’m from Eastern Washington, and early on I knew I needed to see more of the world than what was right in front of me. Right after college, I packed a bag and headed to Europe for the summer. Three months of trains, hostels, new friends, and new languages later, I came home changed — but not done.
I told my mom that Spain was pulling at me, that I wanted to learn the language and understand the people, not just pass through. She looked at me and said, “Why not just go back?” So I did. For five years.
Those years shaped everything — how I see people, how I move through the world, and how I show up in my work. They taught me patience, curiosity, and the value of meeting people exactly where they are.
When I eventually came back to the U.S., I landed in the mortgage world almost by accident — but it turned out to be the perfect fit. I started as a processor and funder in the early 2000s, learning the business from the inside out, and eventually found my way into becoming a loan originator.
